The Mt. Airy tavern was the chosen destination for our business with a client last week. The client chose it and said that he often conducts business there, although with the dim lights and dark atmosphere, I'm not entirely sure why he does that. I really wish they had better lighting. The food was good. I had pulled pork sandwich, which tasted good, but was not edible as a sandwich. I ate the pork off of a soggy bun and washed it down with delicious tap water. Everyone else had a salad off their menu. Two patrons tried the steak salad and rather enjoyed them. Overall, since this is only convenient to my work, and not home, and wasn't anything spectacular, I probably will not be back. The good prices and friendly staff do make it a local joint for people to eat at, but it's simply not a place I will frequent.

This restaurant is located in the corner of a strip mall. It is not the most welcoming place from the exterior, but so worth walking inside! The inside is very clean, cozy, and large! I had the salmon entree tonight with potatoes, bok choy, and a soy ginger glaze. It was really good. It is a great place to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner.

Average at best. A bit overpriced for the quality of food. My wife and I have been here a few times just due to the lack of restaurants in Mt Airy. Last night we just went for some apps and a couple of drinks. The tuna martini is decent. Do not order nachos with "grilled chicken". You will be highly disappointed. The chicken served on the nachos was just boiled. No exaggeration. Not trying to be funny. I've never seen anything like that from a restaurant. It looked like something you would serve a toddler being weened off baby food.

Awful. From the hostess that sat us with a baby in her arm to the 2 babies (I believe they were relatives of the hostess) that were in hostess area with hostess screaming throughout our entire dinner to the cold crab soup, cold crab meat and frozen shrimp on dinner... If I could give it zero stars I would. Guess that's what you get when you go to dinner in a strip mall.

I've been here quite a few times. The food is pretty plain, and I'm not really impressed with it.

This place has to be good given the fact that its always crowded. Never enough that you have to wait more than 10 minutes. We've liked everything we've tried including the reuban, steak and cheese, burger, ahi poke (special), fried cheesecake (special), steak salad, kids grilled cheese and cream of crab soup. The kids chicken tenders were a bit bland which I thought was strange. For my salad I asked for rare on the steak thinking it'd be close to medium rare but it was RARE. My mistake though. As I've said in another review I don't care for french fries unless they are unusually good ones and the ones at Tavern are. Super thin and crispy. Good drinks as well. Its one of our go-to spots in Mount Airy.

I really, really like this place. I was just reading some of the reviews and can't believe no one has mentioned one of their best entrees, the Chesapeake Pasta. YUUUMMM! (plan for a doggy bag). The wait staff here is consistently excellent.

Good service, good food, good ambiance, good specials and clean. We've been frequent guests for three years and have always had a good meal. The staff is always very friendly and if they're not sure about something, they'll find out. Some items might be a little pricey, but the menu has a variety of price points to satisfy whatever you're looking to spend. Primarily casual but offering menu options with some extra pizazz. I'm a huge fan of the Reuben, one of the best I've ever had, but have also enjoyed seasonal specials. The bread pudding (which I didn't even like before trying theirs) is *phenomenal*. I've never recommended it to anyone who didn't love it and I've never found another that I could stand. When the weather is nice, the outdoor area is set up in such a way as to NOT feel like you're on a strip mall side-walk. Drink specials and a well-appointed, spacious bar make it an excellent option for grabbing a drink. When we have out-of-town guests, this is one of our preferred places to take them. It's not too casual, not too stuffy, it's within our budget and it's local (which we like to support).

I'd have to say after reading all the good reviews on here I was very disappointed. The only thing that I think was incredible was the cream of crab soup, some of the best I've had in a long time. I also had the French Dip and it was from good. The roast beef was juicy but the cheese and bread were super dry. Paid $1.50 more to get French fries and probably should have stuck with the chips it came with. It was a mix of over cooked and under cooked fries. All in all it was an ok experience, our server was very nice and super apologetic with the few issues we had with the food.

Server was very unattentive. Our group of 16 was smashed into a seating and always had empty glasses. Vegetables were cold on the dinner entrees. Water was never offered. We were never asked if we wanted coffee. Reservations were made for 16, but one of our tables was given away. It was a birthday celebration. It was the last of our birthday celebrations to be held here.

I really enjoyed my Reuben sandwich. Service was great. Very quick. I would stop in there again if in the area. My brother's Steak Salad looked better. I wished I ordered that instead. But being March, I went Irish.

Calamari had a very strong fishy taste, chicken wings were "worst I've ever had," says my husband, crab dip was bland. We got carryout. We will not eat there again.

Update, this is not food related, but went here to eat and watch an nfl playoff game. I was told that no one knows how to change the tvs. How is this possible. I counted seven people working. They lost my business today.

Stopped in for lunch today. Ordered the shrimp salad sandwich on a kaiser roll with a cup of cream of crab soup. It was delicious. The shrimp were whole and tossed in a light mayo Old Bay sauce. Perfectly seasoned. The soup was good, however, it was not lump crab. It was not over salted. The total cost was $11.95. Overall, I would return for a lunch here again.

Those who have a disability are not welcome at the Mt. Airy Tavern! We always loved going to the Tavern for a burger and a beer, relax in the bar, and watch the game or hang out. Recently, we went to watch a Monday night game with a group of about 11 of us. One of the adults in the group was in a wheelchair. The bar has only tall tables and we asked if they could consider a short table for the bar area. We were told there were plenty of tables in the restaurant. When we shared we wanted the TV for the game, the owner told us 'our clients like tall tables. There are plenty of other restaurants in Mt. Airy.' I can't believe he told us that! Nothing like a 24 year old already struggling for normalcy to get SLAMMED like that! Life is difficult enough. Totally rude and uncalled for. For that one night he could have brought in one regular table! We left and gave our business to the Green Turtle who welcomed the business.

Amazing place; I go there from Germantown almost every weekend for that cream of crab soup!) love the place and food

Much nicer on the inside than what you would think from the outside. Creative menu and executed well. They make a lot of items from scratch and have a good amount of in house specialties. Can't really go wrong with anything on the menu.

A few friends recommended this place. I took my Mom early on a Saturday evening. It was rather crowded, but we were tended to quickly by a super friendly staff. Our appetizer and meals came out quickly and were great. Our drinks were on point too. I was also impressed with the portions. We had plenty left over for 2 more meals. I loved the crab/corn fritters and the bread pudding was to die for. They definitely put some thought into the presentation as well. I will be sure to visit again to sample more of the diverse menu.

Very big improvement over the restraunt that previously occupied the space. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Pleasant wait staff. Food is very good. I've had salads as well as seafood and beef entrees, all very good. It's a great place to gather with friends at the bar before a meal. The food tastes fresh and is thoughtfully prepared.

Took my daughter here on a whim. Hostess was very friendly. The decor is nice, but we were irriated by gnats all through the meal. This could have just been a chance thing on this particular day. I ordered a margherita pizza and a side of fries. The pizza was very good, but could have been excellent with a few changes. Though the crust is above average, there was too much of it, as the toppings only made it halfway to the edge. If there had been a side of olive oil dipping sauce, it would have been splendid. It also needed fresh garlic. The fries seemed hand cut, like a thinner version of Boardwalk fries. They were good, but a bit overdone. The waitress worked hard - too hard. She visited 6 or 7 times during our short meal and gave the impression (though probably not intended) of rushing us: asking us if we needed boxes several times while we were still eating the food; asking , "do you need anything else" just minutes after the meal was delivered (in the same tone a waitress might when you sit around having coffee for 30 minutes after the meal). She was this way with the tables next to us - asking if they needed boxes for their appetizers - even before the entrees came out! We will probably go there again for another try.

We have been very pleased each and every time we've eaten here. Well done guys, you took a hole in the wall and turned it into a decent establishment.

Chose this place based upon other yelp reviews. Usually serves us well. Starting with the good- awesome cream of crab soup, very nice hostess, quick service, very kid friendly. Not so good- the rest of the food. Grey, nasty roast beef. Tasteless chicken salad, seemed like canned chicken. Mushy french fries. I would say this is one to skip

Been coming here for 4 years, its' the best value in Mt. Airy and some of their dishes are the BEST in Mt. Airy. Rueben Sandwich, Black Blue Burger, Tavern Club, Filet Mignon. My absolute favorite is the brisket sandwich, but it is only a special, it is not on the daily menu. The servers in the dining area are friendly and actually want to serve you. They actually like customers and appear to like what they do. It is unusual for the food to not meet your expectation, but if you are not satisfied, they want to know about it and they will fix the problem right away, and they do not look at you like you are asking too much! It's refreshing to get 'service'. On our last visit we noticed they installed new wood plank flooring in the dining room. It's very nice and adds to the atmosphere. There is always a baseball, hockey or football game on the TV (s) in the bar. I like to come here for a pint of Guinness before I pick up my take-away. Sometimes my wife and I come here on Wednesday and get a bottle of wine with our dinner (1/2 price wine).

We love going here. The soups are fantastic. The salads are huge and taste great. So far everything we've gotten has been fabulous. I highly recommend this place.

Dreadful. I don't expect a lot from shopping mall taverns, but this one appears to employ a chef who doesn't know how to cook. I had a steak morsel appetizer with tenderloin cooked to taste like over-seasoned liver, served next to a couple pieces of lettuce and two slices of tomato which were drowning in bottled dressing. The plate was drenched in grease. My wife had the french onion soup and a roast beef sandwich. I didn't think it was possible to make an uneatable sandwich, but this place managed to do it. The roast beef was boil-in-the-bag quality and appeared to have been pulled from the back of the refrigerator. The bread was stale. The staff was friendly, though. I'll give them that much.

Nice food and drink specials but nothing too exciting. The nachos, French onion soup and crab cake platter are your best bets.

Good beer selection. We had the crab soup and Caesar salad. Crab soup has excellent taste. I little stingy on the crab but otherwise excellent. The Caesar salad was one of the better ones I have had. The black and blue burger was excellent. Serves with a good portion of fries. Would highly recommend.

Tavern burger is $5.55 on Mondays $1 extra for cheese, bacon, etc. Flavorful burger ordered Medium Rare was slightly towards rare which was fine with me. Fresh shoestring cut fries were oversalted but, otherwise good. Service was friendly and satisfactory

Probably the best restaurant in Mt Airy MD. You can take a first date here, have your anniversary dinner here, eat on a Tuesday night, or go super casual in the bar area any night. My wife loved the Cream of Crab soup. It is expensive, but its the best soup she's ever eaten. The portions could be a bit bigger, but the food is outstanding. You are going to pay a little more than eating at Chilli's, but its worth it every now and again. This place has plenty of Gluten Free options if you have a restricted diet, like my unfortunate self. The service could be a bit better, considering the ambiance comes across as upscale. I was a little confused if I should wear a jacket, but the wait staff is in black pants and polos, so jeans and a T-shirt is fine. It is located in a strip mall, but don't let that sway you from stopping in.

What a cute little restaurant, hidden in a little shopping center. We stopped in for lunch on the way back from Linganore Winery and enjoyed a delicious lunch. We had the cream if crab soup, which I have to say was the best I have ever had. The Italian dressing on the salad had such a great flavor. Everyone was so friendly, especially Brandon our waiter. We would definitely return and try out their dinner menu next time.

The food is amazing. My favorite is the cream of crab soup which is always filled with lots of fresh crab meat. The service is always good. The happy hour specials are a great deal. Everything we have ever ordered here has fresh ingredients and tastes delicious!

Menu needs to be updated, tired of the same dishes since opening a few years ago. They should keep the cream of crab soup and tuna martini though. Service is very good and friendly.

My husband and i went out for dinner the night before last after not having been at this restaurant for many many years. We were pleasantly surprised by all the changes we saw. We loved the crab soup and we tried the crab cakes which were delicious and we tried the chicken parmisan, also delicious. We both decided this was a place we would go to more often now that they changed the menu and atmostphere.

Food was not good. Service was so so. Had a turkey sandwich at lunch that was very dry and not cheap either.

Just meh. I've been here a few times and the food seems to be "hit or miss". First experience: crab cake sandwich that had way too much filler and the bread was stale; second experience: some sort of chicken that was pretty tasty; third experience: fish tacos which were delicious; fourth experience: breakfast buffet... nothing special. All-in-all I'd say it is a good place to get decent food, especially if you're with a group or family. Something is lacking though. There isn't anything memorable about the place that would make me recommend it to out-of-town guests over other restaurants in the area.

Our first visit here not long after they opened resulted in the decision not to return for a while. About a month ago, we decided to give them a 2nd chance. We were not disappointed. They have weekday specials: we were there on a Monday evening so it was 1/2 lb burgers for $6 w/fries & the bun was actually good - throw in a beer and you've got dinner for like $10 bucks. We also had two salads: a steak salad & a shrimp caesar: both delicious & priced well (I believe $10) My view of this place has changed & would visit again - especially for burger night. I've also heard the bar is fun, but we didn't visit it.

I went here today for lunch--I had the wild mushroom pizza with goat cheese and thyme, and a margarita. Service was great, food was great, and decor was very pleasant. But a warning to fellow vegetarians...I think the pizza I ordered and a margherita pizza are the only non-salad options. It would have been nice to have a sandwich or pasta dish to choose from. Prices were not bad...I think my entree was $10. Most entrees are in this range, but the chef specials cost more. They also have a children's menu with spaghetti, pizza, and other items, priced around $5.

Had a light lunch here with a friend today. Overall I liked it. The place look much better than it did when it was the Olive Leaf. Very nice, upscale atmosphere. I had heard that service was slow when it first opened but even on a busy lunch rush our order was taken an food delivered very quickly and the waitresses teamed up to take care of us. The food was good, although its hard to judge since I just had the soup and sandwich. I will definitely be back for dinner to try something more substantial.

I have given this place a couple tries before writing this review.... The first time I did not receive good service and my waitress couldnt have cared less. The second time I went in not expecting much just a couple beers and wings to watch the game. The wings were ok but they were out of all of their decent beers on tap so I was forced to drink miller lite. Some friends of mine ordered take out the 3rd time and they messed up the order. This place is a FAIL...

Hello, Hello, This is a pretty new place . Month or so. Me and Loverboy went in last night for happy hour to check it out.. The decor is nice, casual. Nice bar about 15 stools or so. Our tender I believe was Sara?, Super friendly. The extended HH is 11-7 offers 2 $ domestic and several apps at half price. He had the chicken enchilada $.4.95 What a deal. He has a pretty healthy appetite, but easily splitable. I had the Tuna Martini, not on the HH specials, But good none the less. And yes it is in a martini glass. The crowd was pretty diversified. We had a good time will go back. Vince was the next bartender,,,,,,,,we arrived at shift change.........nice guy, chatty friendly etc.
